At the beginning of June, we had the pleasure of hosting the first EarthBridge Summer School on our campus. Over the course of six intensive days, 25 participants from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds explored how Earth Observation (EO) technologies can support biodiversity research and environmental monitoring.
The programme combined theoretical lectures with practical training and fieldwork. Participants gained hands-on experience with a range of advanced tools and methods, including:
- drone-based data collection,
- thermal imaging,
- LiDAR data processing,
- spatial analysis in QGIS,
- data analysis and modelling in R.
A key aspect of the summer school was interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of knowledge among participants and instructors.
The summer school was co-organised in partnership with Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna and TU Dresden, whose support was essential to the successful delivery of the programme.
