Visit of Vítězslav Moudrý from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, CZU Prague, to TUD Dresden
In October 2024, Vítězslav Moudrý from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) visited the labs of Matthias Forkel and Anette Eltner at TU Dresden. The purpose of this research exchange was threefold: to advance a paper he had previously worked on in Bologna and Bonn, to gather inspiration for his teaching by attending lectures, and to explore the potential for a joint Interreg project proposal between Saxony and Czechia in collaboration with Anette Eltner.
The visit proved highly productive. Moudrý received valuable feedback on a draft of his perspective paper focused on the quality and availability of canopy height models across Europe. He attended lectures by Anette Eltner on lidar and digital terrain models, which provided useful insights for his own work. Additionally, he discussed with researcher Xiao Liu a revision of the paper, GEDI Reveals Decline in Overstory and Increase in Understory Canopy Cover of Forests in Protected Areas in Central Europe Since 2019. The exchange culminated in a collaborative project idea with Anette Eltner, highlighting the visit as a catalyst for future research.
Reflecting on the visit, Moudrý noted it as a significant and inspiring experience, fostering both personal academic growth and fruitful collaboration on shared research interests, particularly in airborne lidar and GEDI data analysis. This visit marks the beginning of promising cross-border collaboration with TUD Dresden, enriching both institutions’ research efforts in environmental sciences.
