an Fišer, young researcher from CZU, visited the Technical University Dresden between 7 May – 17 May 2024. During his stay, he had the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Anette Eltner, a specialist in photogrammetry, to further his research on processing historical aerial and spy imagery. This type of imagery presents unique challenges compared to conventional photogrammetric methods, and Dr. Eltner’s recent study on the photogrammetric processing of historical aerial imagery served as a key reference for Jan’s work.
The primary goal of the internship was to consult on the procedures involved in the processing of historical imagery and to gain practical skills in this specialized area of photogrammetry.
Throughout the two-week stay, Jan made significant progress in addressing several complex issues related to his data processing. While the types of data Jan works with slightly differ from those typically handled by Dr. Eltner, their joint consultations were highly productive and led to valuable insights. The internship’s objectives were successfully met, with Jan leaving Dresden better equipped to handle the intricacies of his research.
Jan focused on reconstructing the camera positions of historical satellite images, a crucial step for enabling stereo processing of this historical data. With Dr. Eltner’s guidance, he was able to make important strides in this complex process. Additionally, Dr. Eltner recommended further specialists who could provide additional support as Jan continues his work on historical satellite data.
This exchange was a highly beneficial experience for Jan’s career and research. The consultations with an expert in photogrammetry enriched his understanding of the field, and the connections made during the internship are expected to open new avenues for further research and collaboration.
