From Simulation to Validation: Species Distribution Work in Bologna

A short trip to Bologna primarily allowed me to continue the work we started together almost a year ago during my first stay there, specifically on an article titled How does the error in predictors and species occurrence data accumulate in species distribution predictions? In addition to working on the text of the manuscript, we also added experiments with real data to the virtual experiments, which fortunately showed the same results. Of course, I also took the opportunity to meet with PhD students during my visit. With Rocio Beatriz Cortes Lobos, we discussed a topic closely related to the aforementioned article. Her research focuses on spatial bias in species occurrence data, how this bias is reflected in environmental space, and how it affects model outcomes. I also talked to Sofia Prandelli about the possibility of doing an internship in Prague. Sofia is a PhD Candidate in Earth, Life and Environmental Sciences, working on a project focused on the Identification of standardized methodological approaches for the assessment and mitigation of the impacts on biodiversity induced by railway infrastructures. The visit was productive, and Bologna was, as always, a pleasant place to be. The trip certainly fulfilled its purpose, and I look forward to returning there in the future.
